About
An institute for careful attention.
The 4nzx Institute was founded on a simple conviction: many of the institutions that govern modern life have stopped serving the people they were created for, and most of us no longer have the time, the access, or the standing to say so clearly.
We are independent and nonpartisan. We accept no public funds and take no political endorsements. Our work is supported entirely by private contributions from individuals who share our belief that patient inquiry is a civic act.
Our Method
Each line of inquiry begins with a case — a documented failure in a school, a hospital, a court, a benefits office, a permitting agency — and proceeds by interview, archival research, and quiet collaboration with the people closest to the problem. We publish findings only when they are useful to someone who must act.
Local First
Our philanthropic work is deliberately local. We believe that the repair of public trust begins at the scale of a neighborhood, and that the most honest test of any proposed reform is whether it improves the life of someone you might pass on the street.
